Study Abroad Scholarships

Study abroad programs are a great way to learn about different cultures and gain an understanding of how different topics are approached in different areas of the world. Sometimes, though, students don't have the money to partake in these programs. That is why scholarships for study abroad programs are starting to pop up.

Why you need them
Usually, college kids are not the most financially secure individuals. And while study abroad programs seem interesting, they can often be quite expensive. That is why a scholarship is an important tool if you want to study abroad but don't have the available funding.

Where to find them
Finding scholarships is not that difficult. Usually, you can just visit the study abroad office at your educational institution or even the financial services office and they will have a large directory of available scholarships.
If your school does not have these offices, you can just quickly have a look on the Internet and find a wide variety of scholarships you might qualify for.

What credentials you need
The credentials you need to be considered for a scholarship vary greatly. But, to be a candidate for any scholarship, you generally need to have good grades, be an upstanding person, and be able to take full advantage of the opportunities presented to you. You will be able to demonstrate why you are a good candidate through the application process.

How to apply
Much like the credentials you need to win a study abroad scholarship, the application process for each scholarship usually varies. Each scholarship will have a different process that you need to go through before you are considered for the scholarship. Usually, the process includes submitting a transcript, an essay, and sometimes an interview.

Usually, you will have to submit your academic transcript. You need to submit this so the administrators of the scholarship know that you take your academic studies seriously and will take full advantage of the opportunity. Usually, scholarships will publish a minimum GPA that you need to have to be considered for the scholarship.
Next you usually need to write an essay. This could be on a wide variety of subjects, but they usually focus on something related to "why should you get this scholarship". This is basically another tool for the scholarship administrators to determine how much you want the scholarship and how good of a candidate you would be,
After you have submitted your transcript and have written an essay, the final few applicants may be asked in for an interview. This is just one last opportunity for the scholarship administrators to learn about you and why you would be a good recipient of the scholarship.

If you satisfy all these requirements, there is a good chance you will get a scholarship.

If you don't have enough money, that doesn't mean you should give up. There are plenty of scholarship opportunities for people just like you who need a little help with financing your study abroad programs.
